Cuba remains intact. The largest and most populous island in the Caribbean since the 1959 socialist revolution and the subsequent United States trade embargo has frozen the country in time; American vintage cars and horses walk side by side through the streets with many buildings almost in ruins. However, the vibrancy of Cuba is indescribable, the joy of the people, the color of the streets, the sound of salsa present everywhere, transform the atmosphere of Cuba into a unique place in the world.

When is the best time to visit Cuba?

Cuba has a subtropical climate. That said, temperatures can vary (albeit little). The best months to visit the country are March, April, May. The least warm months are December to February. The rainy and hurricane season takes place from June to November although these are very infrequent.

How to get there?

The best way to buy a trip to Cuba is through flight + stay packages (including through a travel agency). It is an extremely safe country.

How do you move within the country?

Cubataxi: Cuba’s official taxis. The taxi driver is obliged by law to turn on the meter, but obviously that most of the time it doesn’t. The price from the airport to Old Havana is approximately € 25.

Car: The best, yet not so economical way to travel around Cuba is to rent a car. Car hire is easy, just ask at your hotel. The price ranges from 70 € to 100 € per day.

Train: Cuba’s train network covers almost the entire country so you will have no trouble getting where you want to go.

National Buses: Viazul (bus company). With Viazul you can easily travel between the main cities and tourist sites.

Plane: If you don’t have a lot of time and want to travel fast, the best option is the plane. The Cuban company flies from Habana to all major cities. See the prices of both companies: Cubana and Aerogaivota.

What money to use?

The CUC is the country’s strong currency and the only one that circulates among tourists … you will hardly find Cuban pesos. Hotels, taxis, museums, meals … almost everything will be paid for in CUC. Always take cash with you, as ATMs are practically nonexistent.

Havana

Greater Havana is a metropolitan area that stretches across the coast and includes the capital and several municipalities; due to its geographical location Havana (capital of cuba) was in the past an important stop on the gold route between Spain and the American continent.

It is an incredible and phenomenal city. It is impossible not to drive around Havana in vintage American cars. Havana is color and flavor.

Varadero

Another prominent place in Cuba. The beaches are very beautiful, with crystal clear and warm water. The hotels have animation almost every day.

Cayo Largo del Sur

Everyone usually visits Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, etc. I was in love with the photos I saw of Cayo Largo del Sur. I booked a tour of Cayo Largo del Sur directly with the hotel’s concierge. You can only go by plane (Cubana). It was quite practical as the plane left directly from Varadero. The tour includes a tour in Catamara through the most beautiful areas of Cayo Largo, food, transfer to the airport, and then also ensure the transfer to the hotel again. I paid about 250 CUC for the tour.
